March Grand Prix is a new full-color graphic novel for young readers, published by Capstone. It comes to us from the mind of Kean Soo, creator of the award-winning comic book series Jellaby. “March Hare wants to be the fastest and furriest race-car driver around. But first, this rabbit racer must prove his skills at the speedway, on the streets, and in the desert. With pedal-to-the-metal illustrations and full-throttle action, March Grand Prix is sure to be a winner!” It’s set for publication this July in hardcover (and then a month later in trade paperback), but Capstone is releasing a special preview edition as part of this year’s Free Comic Book Day (on May 2nd).
Free Comic Book Day

Adventures in the Ice Age
Hey look — we’re back to Free Comic Book Day stuff! First off, did you know that Ice Age: Continental Drift had the highest world-wide box office take of any animated film in 2012? Well it did, by a comfortable margin of millions. Now Boom! Studios’ Kaboom! imprint is carrying on the story and the world-famous characters with their offering for Free Comic Book Day, Ice Age: The Hidden Treasure. “When Crash and Eddie hear about a haunted treasure in a place called Bone Valley, they can’t get the idea out of their heads! After convincing Peaches and Sid to join them on their journey, they set off to become treasure hunters…but what surprise awaits them where X marks the spot?” Crash and Eddie are two rather manic opossums, Sid the sloth is their friend, and Peaches the mammoth is their niece. Yes, it somehow all makes sense! Hidden Treasure was written by Caleb Monroe and illustrated in full color by Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb. Remember, Free Comic Book Day is May 4th.
Free Turtles!
It might seem early in the year to think about it, but the publishers already are: Saturday May 4th is Free Comic Book Day, when various publishers put out special “sampler issues” to be given away at comic book shops across America. First up, IDW Publishing have announced a new full-color tie-in with the hit Ninja Turtles CGI series, featuring art and stories by various people and a color cover by Dario Brizuela. “Jumping from screen to page, it’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures! This unique series captures the heart of the smash Nickelodeon television show with brand-new stories. Full of action, excitement and laughs, this is the perfect all-ages comic to get you seeing green!!” Check out more of what’s coming on Free Comic Book Day by visiting the official web site.
The Escape Goat
It’s not too soon to start thinking about Free Comic Book Day this year. Not with titles like The Intrepid Escape Goat coming our way. If you’ve not heard, every year during the first weekend in May, comic book publishers from all over flood your local comic book shops with miniature versions of their upcoming titles to give away for free to prospective buyers. There’s a web site dedicated to the event where you can find out all about it. And this year one of the titles to look for is an anthropomorphic steam-punk adventure written and illustrated (in full color) by Brian Smith, Mike Raicht, and Charles Paul Wilson III. It’s published by Th3rd World Studios. “It is the dawn of the 20th Century, and one brave soul dares to walk the line between the worlds of science and the arcane; he is Thomas Fleet… The Intrepid Escape Goat! Touring with his ward and assistant Isis (a 2,000-year-old mummy girl), Escape Goat performs to sold-out crowds around the globe… but it’s what happens off-stage, when locals call upon him to solve the paranormal mysteries plaguing their cities, that provides the most peril! Also in this issue: A special preview of The Stuff of Legend Volume 3, continuing the saga of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel!” The Stuff of Legend, of course, is Th3rd World’s continuing series about an army of loyal toys out to save their missing master — and children the world over — from an invasion of nightmare demons.
