Okay, this is decidedly adult-oriented! There’s this comic called The Corporeals, “a web-comic featuring the pre-historical, often homosexual, always science-fictional citizens of Bakersfield, Earth”. Really. Here’s how creator Dave Quantic and artist Bill Ferenc describe it: “Howdy! My name’s Manny! I live with my husbear in prehistoric times. We’re members of an alien race from Jupiter called The Corporeals. Our leader, Kaa’laa brought us to Earth and created bodies for us so that we could experience physical pleasures like sex and cheese fries. Yummy! Bear and I live together in our cave. We have a great group of friends I can’t wait to introduce you to.  Like Jane and Eve, our lesbirific neighbors and Uni the Unicorn. He’s so silly.” So, check out their web site if you’re curious.

Another animator, another graphic novel: Bob Scott is well-known for having worked on projects as wide-ranging as Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny cartoons to Pixar films like The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Meanwhile, he’s been writing and illustrating an on-line comic strip, Molly and the Bear. “It can be tough on a family when someone new has moved in, especially if it’s a 900-pound scaredy-bear so terrified of wilderness life that he’s fled to the burbs. Fortunately Bear was found by Molly, a fearlessly optimistic 11-year-old can-doer who has taken him firmly in hand, devoted to seeing her hirsute BFF cope with modern life. Molly’s Mom is happy with the new sibling — Bear’s an excellent conversationalist and loves her homemade cookies. But Dad is having a harder time, his role as center of the universe now shared with an ursine behemoth who, unfortunately, adores him.” Now Cameron & Company have released the first collection of full-color Molly and the Bear comics in hardcover. The Brave and the Chicken

So we were introduced to Clucked, a new full-color on-line comic created by Joie Brown and Joel Foster. “When a chicken lands on Earth in search of kin, he discovers that not only is his kind considered the tastiest thing in the universe… he’s also the only one left. Can he survive the hungering hordes, cosmic chases, and the entirety of the Galactic Federation long enough to save his homeworld?” Well if you want to help the creators bring us more of the trials and tribulations of Major Sanders (yes…), they have a Patreon link on their web site at www.cluckedcomic.com.

Savannah Horrocks is an illustrator of fantasy and furry works that are of a notably spooky nature. She has created both single works and comics, and she’s even been a guest artist on such well-known comics as Prydwen and Peachy Keen. Lately she’s been branching out into creating original creature dolls as well, which you can see displayed at her web site. She has an Etsy store, a Redbubble store, and a Society 6 store as well (whew!), and there you can see her works on pillows, t-shirts, prints, and other such stuff.

He Can’t Not Draw

Or so he says, anyway. “Physically incapable of not drawing.” You might be glad for this when you view the works of Nero O’Reilly with his decidedly modernist graphic arts style. He’s created several short comic-book style pieces with titles like Carnivore Planet, Red Rivers, and Crystal Wizard, as well as plenty of stand-alone art pieces in both color and black and white. Which you can view at this web site, Trumpet Shark. (Fair warning: Some of his works are of a decidedly adults-only nature.) His site also includes his personal store where you can pick up his works in print form, on buttons, or on stickers.

Flights into Fantasy

Margaret Trauth is an illustrator (and dancer, of all things!) with a stark, often line-less style that relies heavily on color. (This is not at all a bad thing.) At her web site (“Egypt Urnash”) you’ll find not only examples of her illustrations (on prints, t-shirts, and other such goodies) but also full-color comics that she has worked on, including the adults-only title Five Glasses of Absinthe. Some of this is adults-only, some of it is not, but all of it is quite fanciful.

The Young Shall Lead the Way

Back in 2014, illustrator Katie Shaw got busy on a life-long dream of creating her own comic, based on the works she loved growing up. The result is Dragon Child, an on-line black and white fantasy comic created, written, and drawn by Katie, that is also available in paper form. Over the past year she’s been appearing at various comic conventions in the western USA to introduce people to her work. What’s the story? When the dragons of the world gather from the four corners to decide what to do about the growing impact of humans, a young girl named Ryu Kodomo discovers that she has caught the attention of an elf named Chase — and a precocious young “dracling” named Embyr. The comics and much more background material can be found at the official Dragon Child web site. Did we mention that Katie sells plush dragons too?

Teagan Gavet is likely better known in furry fandom as the artist Black Teagan — and perhaps known best as one-half of the award-winning art collective known as Blotch. Now she has created a brand new full-color anthropomorphic graphic novel of her own, Oren’s Forge, and she plans to put installments up on line starting soon. “The bizarre rumor of a sanctuary free from predation has reached many animals, and not just those considered as prey. Two pine martens, Rask and Quannaq, follow the tales to the lake that lay in the shadow of mountain. While they have the long teeth of a flesh-eater, they know the constant fear of greater hunters who consider them only meat. Convinced that there is more to this life than a mere transition into death, they go on toward the unknown, unsure if they will find welcome or ruin.” Visit the official web site for updates, and look for Oren’s Forge on line starting November 16th.

“Cosmic Dash is a webcomic with science fiction and space opera influences that updates every Friday. The comic deals with a massive galaxy called the Silver Spiral that is being explored by many different alien races and three principal factions. The comic focuses on Dash Kameku and his crew-mates as they transport cargo around the known galactic territories and beyond.” Got all that? The series is created and illustrated by David A. Davis with the help of Deft Beck (writer) and Tobias Van Den Bergh (inker). The Cosmic Dash web site is kind enough to have an extensive “New Reader Guide” page and archives to help you get caught up.
